Moorhead, MN. Encryptomatic LLC today announced the availability of OutDisk™ Email FTP for Windows®, version 2.0. OutDisk is a unique communications tool that conveniently unites email with FTP file transfers. OutDisk allows IT Departments or individuals to use their own web hosting service to deliver files that can’t be easily shared in an email message. Files sent via OutDisk can be encrypted with strong AES encryption. The recipient only needs to know the password to access the file; and no special software is required to be installed on the recipient’s computer.
“OutDisk solves the problem of how to send files securely, via email, without requiring the recipient to install special software,” said Darren S. Leno, President, Encryptomatic LLC. “It’s found a niche with professionals such as lawyers, accountants, mortgage brokers, architects, financial advisors and engineers – people who need the ability to securely share large files with their customers through email, but who want to keep their files on servers that are under their control.”
With OutDisk FTP for Email, users can avoid common problems with sending email attachments, including: exceeding the recipient’s inbox storage capacity, file type restrictions, ISP file size restrictions, and difficulty with password protecting files.
With OutDisk, users can easily accomplish the following functions:
-Upload files with “drag and drop” convenience
-Apply zip compression to files (zip or self-extracting .exe)
-Apply strong 256 bit AES encryption to files
-Create an encrypted file that will self-decrypt if the recipient knows the password.
OutDisk FTP for Email works with virtually any email program (Outlook®, Eudora®, Thunderbird), or web-based email (Gmail® or Yahoo! Mail®). OutDisk passes a download link to the email program, or copies it to memory so that it can be easily pasted into a browser or Instant Messenger program.
“Many IT departments are searching for a way to let their email users share large files. For compliance and privacy purposes, they would prefer that users not utilize the insecure ad-supported free file services,” said Darren Leno, President, Encryptomatic llc. “OutDisk for Windows can be deployed throughout the company and is very easy to use. OutDisk utilizes the company’s FTP servers, and keeps the company’s data on the company’s servers.”
Who is it For?
OutDisk is a good solution for administrators who want to provide users an easy method to exchange sensitive files or large files.
Unlike the free file transfer services where privacy is not ensured, OutDisk FTP for Email allows system administrators to provide a simple file transfer capability to their users, while storing the attached files on servers that are under their control. This helps system administrators log file activity, provider better service to their users, and ensure that the company’s policies are enforced for compliance purposes.
System administrators can optionally “lock” the FTP settings so that users can not change them. A script (in asp/php/perl versions) is available to automatically remove aging files is available for corporate users to run as a chron job or scheduled task.
Users without an FTP account can use the built in “test” account to trial OutDisk’s features.
Outdisk can also upload files directly to the popular free file transfer service, SendBigFiles.com.
How OutDisk Works:
When the sender selects files by dragging and dropping them onto the OutDisk icon. When the sender clicks on the “Start Upload” button, OutDisk performs the following functions.
1. OutDisk logs into the FTP site and creates a unique subdirectory so that the file is not co-mingled with any other files. It then uploads the files.
2. OutDisk copies an http link to the file into to sender’s clipboard, so it can be easily pasted into the email message then shared with the recipient. The sender may optionally have OutDisk pass the link directly into a new email message.
3. The recipient receives the email message and clicks on the link to download the files.
Later the file can be removed by the sender using the “File Manager.” File cleaner scripts are available that can automatically purge aging files.
