Toronto and Los Angeles based Veni Vici Entertainment and Mexico City based Roberto Schlosser announce their formation of Pacifico Pictures, an off-shore partnership, which is developing several films that fit Veni Vici’s Holly-Bolly film criteria for maximum crossover potential.
Holly-Bolly films use stories involving Americans and nationals of markets in which domestic films consistently outsell Hollywood films with the exception of blockbusters such as Spiderman, etc. The rest of the criteria for Holly-Bolly films include multi-national casts, some bilingualism, musical product placement and an end result that can be enjoyed from the points of view of both cultures.
Pacifico Pictures will operate primarily out of Mexico but may produce English and Spanish language films in other Central and South American countries. Pacifico may also produce “double shoots” in which the English and Spanish versions are filmed concurrently with some cast changes when necessary.
Pacifico’s first project is a thriller titled “Onuk, The Prince of Darkness,” involving an American archaeologist who makes an important historical find in Central America but, in the process, unleashes a prehistoric evil power that has the feel of aboriginal mythology and that destroys him and his family.
In development by Pacifico Pictures also are:
"Cuban Eclipse," an intrigue-filled thriller in which a quasi-U.S. government group tries to smuggle out Cuba’s chess champion ;
"Solo," in which an American rogue financier who embezzled millions, holes up in Mexico City and is tracked by an equally slippery hound of a man, who is well connected in the Mexican underworld. It becomes a dangerous cat and mouse game;
"7 Furies," which starts with an attempted hijacking, finds a Japanese UN Envoy introducing the Yakuza to bring seven Ninjas to the Caribbean to assassinate an American pacifist who knows nothing about martial arts.
Andy Halmay, head of Veni Vici, is pitching hedge funds with a slate of 10 Holly Bolly features, including “Onuk, Prince of Darkness,” with budgets ranging from $1.9 million to $26 million. These will be produced in Mexico, India, China, Italy, Germany, Canada, Romania and the U.S.
Roberto Schlosser, Transylvanian-born, Argentinean citizen and Mexico resident, is a veteran writer and director in films and TV. He works in Spanish and English and has been active in the U.S., Spain, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Peru with a long list of quality credits.
Veni Vici is also active in TV program development and is currently in discussions with several ad agencies and advertisers for an AFP (advertiser funded program) “The P.P. Guy,” a comedy series about a product placement agent who tries to place products on fictitious shows while in reality, the placements are real and on The P.P. Guy’s show.
