Work Systems Affiliates Selected to Facilitate Tappan Zee Bridge Stakeholder Advisory Groups

Auburn, MA – June 22, 2007 – Work Systems Affiliates International (WSA), a strategy and leadership development firm serving both commercial and government sectors, has been chosen to facilitate a series of Tappan Zee Bridge/I-287 Corridor Stakeholder Advisory Working Groups (SAWG.) The SAWGs were formed to engage members of the public and interested individuals in a discussion on how to improve mobility in the Tappan Zee Bridge/I-287 Corridor — now and in the future — in a safe, secure and cost-effective manner.

“We are so pleased to be chosen to facilitate the SAWG meetings. We love the challenge of bringing together diverse groups of individuals, who have strong and often divergent opinions of what is the best solution and arriving at an outcome that works,” said Paul Plotczyk, President, Work Systems Affiliates. “This fits very nicely with our experience in working on other projects of a similar nature, including capital improvement and remediation projects, as well as a Super Fund project in Georgia with Chevron.”

The objective of the SAWGs is to keep interested individuals informed about the project and solicit their input and ideas. The SAWGs are envisioned as a valuable forum for the exchange of information, discussion of issues, and solicitation of feedback that the Project Team will take under consideration in the design development process. The groups, consisting of approximately 20 people each, will focus on the following topics:
• Traffic / Transit
• Environmental
• Land Use
• Bridge Design

“The scope of the meetings is broad, much of the content is complex and the interests that need to be served are diverse. This combination could cause communication to breakdown which is why we asked Work Systems Affiliates to facilitate the meetings. They have a strong record working with groups like ours. We are confident that WSA will help move the environmental review process forward in a balanced, productive and timely manner,” commented Glen Kartalis, Senior VP, DMJM Harris, one of the lead engineering firms involved with the project.

About the Project
Congestion along the Tappan Zee Bridge/I-287 Corridor continues to worsen. The challenge is to examine the mobility needs of the region and to provide travelers with the best way to assure a safe and effective crossing now and in the future.

The aim of the Tappan Zee Bridge/I-287 Environmental Review is to:
• Resolve the structural needs of the Tappan Zee Bridge;
• Identify a potential transit link for the region; and
• Determine the safest, most efficient, environmentally sound, and responsible way to address the transportation needs of the Tappan Zee Bridge/I-287 Corridor for the next century.

This project is being conducted by the New York State Department of Transportation, the New York State Thruway Authority and MTA Metro-North Railroad, under the supervision of the Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Transit Administration, the federal co-leads for the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process.
