Colts Neck, NJ, June 15, 2007 — Morrissey & Thompson-Ryan Interior Design has completed design work on a 4,000-square-foot penthouse at The Monmouth, one of the New Jersey Shore’s most prestigious residences for active adults.Located at the intersection of Route 34 and Route 70 in Wall Township, NJ, the 96-unit luxury condominium development by builder James R. Bell was created to echo the sophisticated penthouses of cities like Manhattan and Paris.
Morrissey & Thompson-Ryan Interior Design was engaged by the client during construction to make the most of the property’s high-end aesthetics, while also maintaining a warm and welcoming environment for family and friends.
Says lead designer Jill Thompson-Ryan, “Our challenge was to find a common, flexible design element to connect the home’s 4,000 square feet of space.”
Thompson-Ryan chose a palette of cream and blue to bring harmony to both the home’s formal living areas and its more relaxed rooms. For example, a bedroom reserved for visiting grandchildren uses the colors in a beach-themed ceiling mural that features a sentimental landmark— the family’s favorite Jersey Shore fudge shop — as well as a sky-bound kite designed by the owners’ grandson.
The home’s main areas are a study in textural contrasts, from rich Venetian plaster wall finishes to the smooth porcelain tile floor with an inlaid etched border. Custom-crafted mahogany built-ins combine drama with the warmth of wood for an intriguing focal point in the home’s living room.

According to Thompson-Ryan, the penthouse engagement epitomizes the value a trained designer can bring to a decorating or remodeling project. “Projects of this size — especially if you’re still in the constriction phase — can easily last a year or more. There’s so much to see and do, it’s easy to get overwhelmed very quickly.”
“An interior designer brings a fresh set of eyes to the process — taking a look at what you love, learning more about what you envision, and helping you crystallize your thinking so we can map out a plan for pulling together the right elements and keeping a project on schedule and on budget,” says Thompson-Ryan.
Thompson-Ryan, an Allied Member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), was recently named one of New Jersey’s first Certified Interior Designers. This rigorous credential requires over 17,000 hours or 10 years of professional work experience, plus documented expertise in diverse design areas ranging from construction knowledge and project scheduling to layouts, materials, and more.
