Storix, Inc Announces Full-system Backup and Adaptable System Recovery (ASR) Support for System i Users

June 14, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
San Diego, June 2007— Storix, Inc, provider of the most comprehensive backup and recovery solutions for Linux and AIX systems, today announced its SBAdmin® v 6.1 now supports IBM’s System i product line. In addition to daily backup management, System i users now have unprecedented Adaptable System Recovery (ASR) capabilities designed to easily reconfigure systems to their previous state regardless of whether the new hardware is identical to previous devices.

“The ‘adaptability’ of the ASR feature is what really differentiates this product,” said Anthony Johnson, Storix president. “The software’s unique ability to record configuration information from a particular system and easily replicate the configuration onto any new box, even on newer hardware or virtual systems, makes this product more than just a disaster recovery solution.”

Prior to ASR technology, System i users had to settle for unintelligent image-based restore options that require the backup image be restored to the identical hardware configuration. Finding identical hardware after a disaster proved to be challenging for many businesses, especially if the original systems were more than 12 months old.

Not limited to unplanned disaster recovery capabilities, ASR also simplifies planned backup activities for IT administrators. ASR enables users to easily migrate configuration information during hardware upgrades and to provision groups of new systems by creating a master backup for cloning multiple systems. Provisioning can also be done remotely for systems that span multiple locations.

SBAdmin® combines an easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) for daily backup management with ASR, the most complete and flexible full-system recovery process on the market. The intelligent Adaptable System Recovery process takes the backup and adapts it to the hardware detected during installation. The complete restore from bare-metal can be managed locally or remotely and can take less than one hour. If the software detects differences between the backup and newly detected hardware, it will make recommendations, such as selection of new disks or automated shrinking of file-systems.

“Storix, Inc is well recognized for providing simple, innovative solutions to meet the backup and recovery needs of Linux and AIX users,” said Storix Director of Sales and Marketing Manuel Altamirano. “So when System i users began to demand a more complete backup solution that included LVM and software RAID devices, as well as an easier way to migrate to new hardware, Storix developed SBAdmin v 6.1 to support those System i customers.”

Storix prides itself in offering free annual maintenance and free 24-hour technical support. The company also provides free product updates throughout the life of the current version, and existing customers can upgrade at a discounted rate. Optional features of SBAdmin v 6.1 include backup data encryption with simplified key management, Oracle database backup integration, and Windows and Mac OSX data backups. SBAdmin supports all Intel-based (x86/Pentium), IBM pSeries (32/64-bit) and HP Integrity (Itanium 2).
