On Wednesday, July 11, 2007 from 6 to 9 pm, there will be a panel discussion of artists entitled “The Artful Life.” This discussion will focus on the interchange of their lives and their art and will include visual presentations. A question and answer period will follow the presentations. This should prove to be an exciting evening of dialog between New York City artists and New Mexican artists. Panelists include visiting New York City artists Professor Lynne Mayocole, who has lived and worked in Soho, NYC for 40 years and Irene Christensen, an internationally renowned Norwegian artist currently residing in New York City. Joining them will be Wesley Pulkka, Artist and Art Critic for the Albuquerque Journal, and Joan Fenicle, ArtsCrawl Coordinator, Artist and Photo Editor of Albuquerque Arts. Julian Spalding, Publisher of Albuquerque Arts will act as moderator and Veronica Piastuch, Artist and Art Teacher, as Host. This panel is open to the public and is free. This talk takes place in conjunction with the art exhibit “Unfolding Art from Soho to Sobro” at the South Broadway Cultural Center, 1025 Broadway SE, Albuquerque NM 87102, 505-848-1320 which runs the months of July and August. The opening reception for this show is Friday, July 13, 2007 from 6 to 8 pm. Since this exhibit centers around Japanese accordion books, there will be a 13 foot blank accordion book and art supplies present during the panel talk. This will be used for audience participation and the finished piece will be added to the exhibit as an outreach project. This panel will explore the creative process and how it is affected by life and its many changes. Artists will discuss how external changes such as environment, geography, aesthetics, available materials, new materials have influenced their work. In addition, the internal landscape of life’s emotional changes also shift an artist’s work. This discussion will be geared toward the specifics of these artists’ lives rather than speak in philosophical generalities. In addition, the artists will discuss how the creation of their works influenced them as well. Please join us for an unforgettable evening!
