Just Us Women Productions Launches Postpartum Stroller Workouts

Rockland County, NY-New mothers in Rockland County looking to get fit after pregnancy will now have another option for reaching their fitness goals. There’s a new workout in town that doesn’t require coordinating babysitting services, it’s Stroller Workouts with Just Us Women Productions.Stroller Workouts, the first of its kind in Rockland County, provides new moms with a comprehensive 45 minute workout held outdoors which includes; a warm-up segment, cardio, strength training, flexibility and an efficient cool-down. In every class the stroller is used as a fitness apparatus in addition to the natural landscape found in your neighborhood park. Recognizing the increasing number of women delaying motherhood each session of stroller workouts will address the special fitness concerns of women 35+.
Patterned after Strollercize®, a fitness workout developed by expert and author Elizabeth Trindade, each session has unique workouts that address those “special areas” including the abdominals and pelvic muscles which often require strengthening after birth to reduce incontinence. The benefits include a better mood and emotional state and learning practical techniques to be able to handle the physical demands of mothering a lot better such as reaching, bending and lifting.
Research funded by the Centers of Disease Control, and published in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, found that “only one of every six pregnant women are meeting the current physical activity recommendation of 30 or more minutes of moderate physical activity on most, if not all days of the week.” This would mean that most women go into labor out of shape, enter the postpartum period out of shape and expect to “quickly regain their shape”, a very unrealistic goal.
Two weekly classes will be offered outdoors in Rockland County on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning June 12th. Pre-registration is required and clearance from your doctor if you are less than 6 weeks post-partum. Mothers of all fitness levels are welcome. All classes will be taught by Tamara Wrenn. Tamara is an AFAA certified fitness instructor and certified childbirth educator. She has over 12 years experience in maternal and child health, which includes work around breastfeeding, and over ten years experience in mothering.
