On Wednesday the Fourth of July, the mountains in Asheboro, NC will rumble with the memory of a fallen racer and friend as Caraway Speedway holds their first Annual Rusty Harpe Memorial Race. The event is set to honor Rusty Harpe, who was tragically killed in a farm accident in January 2007 Those who had the opportunity to know Rusty understand that a memorial race in his honor is more than appropriate, as he was a fierce competitor at Caraway and more importantly, a true friend to his racing family.
“We have worked diligently to make this race attractive to drivers and fans” said Chip Harpe, Rusty’s father. “We want this to be a race for the racers and the fans that Rusty loved so much. We have many sponsors that have stepped up to provide awards for the event, as well as some prizes for the fans. We hope to draw a large number of race entries and a crowd of fans to make this a special event.”
The action will begin with practice on July 3rd, with the green flag dropping for the Rusty Harpe Memorial Race at 8:00 pm, Wednesday, July 4th.
