A blog, short for "weblog", is a personal diary or journal that is placed on a web site and regularly updated. While many blogs are personal journal, or contain politically- and socially-oriented opinion writing, an increasing number of businesses are now becoming involved in blogging. The blog offers a way of providing immediate information to customers and suppliers, and allows employees who are not familiar with web development to contribute content for a web site. Blogs have seen an explosion of popularity over the last two years, and there are now an estimated 7 million blogs worldwide. Most weblog systems use scripting languages like Perl or PHP. With these systems, the web server had to translate the script language into the machine language used by computers before the server can perform the required operations. .Blog, however, is distributed as an application that is already compiled into native machine language DLLs that reside on the web site.
