Denied Surveillance: Making Progress in The War on Malware. ?Security Experts Test New Desktop Security Software that Every PC User Can Adopt Today
May 30, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
Informatica Research, a division of Toronto-based Informatica Security has conducted a series of tests on the newest software designed to combat the threat of information theft literally from under the users’ fingertips. The results have been published in this month’s white paper: “Denied Surveillance”. "http://www.informaticasecurity.com/whitepapers.html" Every month, hundreds of new types of information-stealing trojans make their way onto the Internet. There are so many, that the traditional anti-malware, signature-based techniques have a very hard time detecting them. Informatica’s president, Claudiu Popa said “we were very impressed with the effectiveness of these tools and believe they should be intalled on every PC as a supplementary protection measure against Trojans and Keyloggers”.
Security industry experts agree that the evolution of malicious software, or malware is so rapid that it is unrealistic to believe that traditional signature-based tools can keep up. “We see new and effective infections every week, on systems that should already have been protected” said Popa. “It’s not a failure of the signature-based companies like McAfee and Symantec, it’s really the model they use that’s showing it’s age”.
“Denied Surveillance” is designed to be an informative read for any computer user, regardless of technical background. Claudiu Popa is a security expert and recommends common sense, rather than ultra-complex security solutions to security problems. He added “the software’s premise is that your computer may already be infected, but until your trusted signature-based software has a chance to update itself, your anti-keyloggers will work to render such installed malware ineffective. These are very elegant, workable and easy-to-implement solutions that should be adopted by individuals and companies alike.”
“Denied Surveillance: An Independent Analysis of Non-Signature-Based Windows Anti-Keylogging Software” is available from the Informatica Security Web site at "http://www.informaticasecurity.com/press/2007/Anti_Keylogger_Software.html" http://www.informaticasecurity.com/press/2007/Anti_Keylogger_Software.html. “Don’t let the title fool you, this is not only a must-read, but it’s also an easy one. We welcome your feedback” added Popa.
