Topman, the UK's leading men's fashion retailers, has combined forces with rising star, jewellery designer Husam El Odeh, to raise funds for the 2007 Everyman Male Cancer Awareness Month this June. Husam will design a limited edition pin badge for the Topman Everyman Campaign. The pin will take the shape of a smiley face centred inside the masculine symbol, and will join Topman's collection of men's clothing accessories as one of this summer's essential fashion items. The proceeds will go directly to the Everyman Campaign, which raises funds for prostate and testicular cancer.Originally a fine art student, Husam began designing jewellery in 1999 and has since been sponsored by the British Fashion Council. His past design collaborations have involved emerging names in the fashion world, including Siv Stoldal, Marios Schwab and Ann-Sofie Back. Husam has also been invited to collaborate on the bstore Artbook.
The Everyman pin badge will be available in two colours: in neon yellow or black enamel, with black crystal eyes. The pin is designed to reach out to young men and spread awareness of testicular cancer, which is currently the most common cancer amongst men aged between 15 and 45.
David Shepherd, Topman's Managing Director, commented:
"As a leading male fashion brand in the UK, Topman is ideally placed to give our total support to the Everyman Campaign and raise awareness within our target market of this serious issue. Over the last five years, we have managed to raise in excess of £250, 000 for this essential cause."
Hannah Crabtree, a spokesperson for the Everyman Campaign, added:
"Everyman is delighted to be working with Topman again this year. Through our partnership, we hope to raise awareness of testicular and prostate cancer, as well as help to fund the vital work of our scientists."
If testicular cancer is detected early enough, the rate of recovery is an optimistic 99% - all the proceeds generated by Topman's Everyman pin badge will go directly to the Everyman Campaign to further educate young males on the dangers of this cancer.
The Everyman pin badges will be on sale at Topman stores and Topman online at the end of May, and consumers will be able to keep up with this and other news via the Topman News site.
