As part of a corporate initiative to give back to the community, Target Stores in partnership with Margate Middle School, recently took part in a “Community Day of Caring” campus beautification project.

With the help of AnnElizabeth Hallahan, one of Target’s executive team leaders in charge of education programs, Assistant Principal Cara Coletti, Margate Middle School’s Partner’s in Education liaison, a campus beautification project took shape.

Ms. Coletti stated, “As the person in charge of developing partnerships for Margate Middle, I wanted to bring in some big corporate partnerships. My vision for the school is that it will become a customer friendly environment, and that includes outside appearance.” Ms. Hallahan was responsible for getting Target employees to commit their time to volunteer for the project. Target donated the manpower and the plants while Margate’s student council students volunteered to pitch in and help.

Since 1999, the Community Involvement Department of Broward County Public Schools has been under the umbrella of Partners in Education. The value of partnerships is in the millions of dollars and more than 100,000 hours of time is donated each year.

Partnerships require a culture that reinforces community involvement. They recognize that a well run community involvement initiative is a win/win program for schools, for businesses, and the community.

Businesses or community organizations interested in forming a partnership with a school may contact the principal of the school directly.
