Flame Run celebrates sculptor’s exploration of steel and glass. “Life and Beyond” by Bryan Holden opens Aug. 3

LOUISVILLE, KY (May 25, 2007) – “Life and Beyond,” showcases well-established metal artist Bryan Holden’s work with artists at Flame Run contemporary art glass studio from Aug. 3 through Sept. 21. A reception is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 11.

Those familiar with Holden’s work will recognize the influence of his Catholicism: A nearly 8 foot tall stainless steel crucifix-like figure that looks like wood holds glass spikes created by Flame Run artist Paul Nelson. The figure is Jesus freed from the cross clenching his nails as he ascends to heaven. A father figure holding a tiny baby in his palms emerges from what appears to be a liquid-filled metal receptacle. The liquid is actually ladled glass. The figure represents Holden’s father holding Holden’s son.

“These pieces are all my ideas, but the glass would not be possible without the generous talent of Brook and the other artists at Flame Run,” Holden said.

Holden, 44, was taught welding by his father who customized cars and motorcycles before he died in 2000. Holden worked with his brother in a collision-repair business until 1994, when he began working full-time as an artist. His work is on display in several dozen corporate, private and public settings in Louisville as well as in private collections across the U.S. and Europe.
