ENGLEWOOD, CO- May 2007 — To help reduce the risk of children and adults being bitten by dogs, as well as to further its mission to promote responsible dog ownership, Bark Busters, the world’s largest dog training company, will offer free dog safety workshops for community organizations. The program will be launched nationwide May 20th in recognition of National Dog Bite Prevention Week (May 20th -26th) sponsored by the Humane Society of the United States.

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, more than 4.7 million Americans were bitten by dogs in the last year – with small children, the elderly and U.S. Postal Service letter carriers representing the most frequent victims.

“Bark Busters is committed to educating the public on how to interact safely with dogs by helping them to better understand how dogs think, act and communicate,” said Liam Crowe, Bark Busters USA COO and master dog behavioral therapist. “Bark Busters’ dog behavioral therapists will host these free community workshops which will cover the basics of the canine psyche, communication (voice control and body language), and will focus on dog-safety tips – we hope that with education and training we can reduce the number of attacks.”

According to Crowe, fear is the most common cause of aggression in companion dogs. During the workshop, participants will learn how to recognize the signs of fear and aggression by reading a dog’s body language. In addition to the basics on dog body language, the hour-long workshops will include important dog safety guidelines and will also cover content specifically designed for parents of small children.

These workshops are available free of charge to community-based organizations and workshops are subject to availability. Organizations interested in scheduling a free Bark Busters workshop are invited to e-mail Workshops@BarkBusters.com and include the name of organization, ZIP code of organization, and a contact name and phone number; information is also available at www.BarkBusters.com.

Bark Busters dog behavioral therapists are renowned authorities in the area of correcting dog behavior; the Australian training system can successfully train any dog, any age – even puppies. The company’s natural training techniques leverage the same communications methods – body language and voice control – that dogs follow as part of their instinctual pack mentality. Nearly 80 percent of Bark Busters’ clients require only one two-hour home visit from a certified dog behavioral therapist when they continue with 10 to 15 minutes a day of follow-up exercises for several weeks.
