Ashtanga Workshop at Wilmington Yoga Center

Wilmington, NC– Larry Hobbs, who has studied with ashtanga guru Pattabhi Jois, will share information about ashtanga during a weekend workshop, Ashtanga Fundamentals, at the Wilmington Yoga Center May 26- 27, 2007. The weekend will include classes on the basics of ashtanga primary series with the focus on correct alignment of the 3rd “limb” of the ashtanga system postures.
Schedule of Events at Wilmington Yoga Center, 5329 Oleander Drive
Saturday, May 26
Noon - 2:30 pm: Lecture on principles behind ashtanga primary series, poses and counter poses, breakdown of salutations and six fundamental standing postures.
4:00 – 6:30 pm: Finishing standing postures, importance of closing sequence and pranayama.
Sunday, May 27
9:30 am – noon: Breakdown of seated postures and fundamental adjustments.
1:30 – 4:00 pm: Finishing seated postures and completion with improve practice.
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a physical and athletic based practice focusing on a prescribed set of asanas (postures), bandhas (locks), and drishti (gaze.) This system has spread across America as taught by Indian yoga master Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois, taught as a series of poses done in sequential order, linked together with the breath.

About the instructor:
Larry Hobbs started his ashtanga practice in 2001. Larry received his teacher certification through Doug Swenson in July 2002. Larry has been fortunate enough to complete 5-day training in Seattle, WA studying with ashtanga guru Pattabhi Jois, as well as Ashtanga teacher training with Tim Miller. He is registered with Yoga Alliance at the 200 E-RYT level, and serves as Co-Director of the Wilmington Yoga Center teacher training program. He also trained with Manju Jois, David Garrigues, Sarah Powers, David Williams, Paul Griley, JJ Gromley, Twee Merrigan, Brian Kest and Simon Park.
