Eil.com the world's leading provider of rare music & music memorabilia announced today that they have acquired Keith Moon’s cherished Cash Register that was mounted on the bar in his ‘Tara’ mansion in Surrey.Mike Cambridge, the senior buyer for eil.com was delighted to have picked up such a fabulous piece of rock memorabilia. “If ever there was anyone who deserved the title: 'Wild Man of Rock' it was surely Keith Moon. In rock chronicles Keith was a legendary party man and someone who was never happier than when entertaining in his own home, at his own bar using this cash register.
Originally purchased from an a local antique shop in Chertsey in the sixties this antique 1915 Empire case style brass cash register is just about as large as its larger than life owner. One can only speculate the who’s who of people from the world of rock and film that drank and partied with Keith and his till.
Injuries sustained from those evenings were not always just the humans. Keith and Oliver Reed were great mates and legend has it that on one evening Ollie hurled a bottle of brandy at Keith for reasons lost in the midst of time. Keith was too drunk to catch it and it smashed into the till breaking its glass tray . Naturally Keith found the whole thing amusing and never bothered to replace the glass despite keeping some of the pieces!
This piece is not just for the serious collector but the collector with the personality & house to do it justice. Not just a Who fan but someone who has a place that is large enough to house something that meant so much to one of rock’s great personalities. A big till for a big collector who if they are a big drinker as well then all the better” he added!
The provenance of the piece is provided by its original authentication by Keith’s personal assistant, when it was sold through a major Auction House in 2001 & comes complete with a picture depicting Keith with this cash register.
