Palm Beach Spine and Pain Institute Dedicates new South Florida Pain Medicine Treatment Facility

Palm Beach Spine and Pain Institute founders, Lawrence Gorfine, M.D., and Douglas MacLear, D.O., Board Certified Physicians in Pain Management, announce the dedication of their new offices and pain medicine treatment center at 2290 10th Avenue North, Suite 600, Lake Worth, FL.

The medical out-patient facility treats acute and chronic back pain, neck pain, nerve pain, work related injuries, cancer related pain, traumatic insult, Spinal Cord Injuries, Herniated Disks, Sciatica (compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve), Spinal Stenosis (build-up of bone in the spinal cavity), Post Stroke Pain, Shingles, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) also known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, as well as numerous other causes of pain.

“We help the patient avoid the Emergency Room and more extensive surgical intervention by rapidly treating pain with minimally-invasive procedures,” says Dr. MacLear. “With this new centrally located facility, we can see the patient earlier, thereby limiting many of the inflammatory processes and preventing the pain from becoming chronic.”

The practice relocated to the new center in February and recently dedicated its new modern Pre-Op and Post Op Areas, and Dedicated Fluoroscopy Rooms. Palm Beach Spine & Pain Institute Procedure Rooms include all of the technologically advanced equipment of today’s Pain Medicine including IDET Generators, Nucleoplasty Generators, Radiofrequency Generators, and Fluoroscopy with digital-subtraction capabilities.

Diagnostic Injections can be used to confirm pain location, and to ensure that all causes of pain are discovered and evaluated for treatment. Procedures performed at the new pain treatment center include two types of minimally invasive disc surgery—Nucleoplasty, which is one of the newest methods for performing outpatient disc surgery.

Using a type of nuclear ablation called coblation, the surgeon uses precision radio-frequency thermal energy to remove tissue with minimal damage to surrounding tissue; and IDET (Intradiscal Electrothermal Annulplasty), a procedure using thermal energy to heat a painful herniated disc in the lumbar or lower thoracic spine, causing the collagen to shrink around the tear.

“It has long been accepted that physicians have two basic options to alleviate suffering: surgery or pain medication,” says Dr. Gorfine. “Now comes a third option—using pain alleviating, non-invasive procedures as a method of first resort, not last.”
