Brooklyn, New York - Mayor Michael Bloomberg gives nod on Black Business Circle’s commitment on “Changing the face of East New York”Brooklyn, New York - Mayor Michael Bloomberg gives nod on Black Business Circle’s commitment on “Changing the face of East New York”. Black Business Circle coined the phrase “Changing the face of New York” and is leading a national trend in the area of Economic Empowerment and its headquarters are based in East New York.
In fact four levels of government in New York State proclaimed the month of June as Economic Empowerment Month including the Congress, State Senate, City Council, and Brooklyn Borough’s President’s Office. After Black Business Circle press conference on the steps of City in 2004 Black Business Circle member Jesse Washington introduced Black Business Circle’s Founder and President to Mayor Bloomberg, as they shook hands the Mayor spoke about the positive changes in East New York. East New York currently has a high rate of new construction, new retail stores, and additionally a number of large national chain stores are relocating to the area.
Lisa Washington, Founder and President of ENY National Black Chamber of Commerce is creating an economic renaissance in East New York through her membership based organization Black Business Circle.
Her efforts created the first Economic Summit in East New York, and created positive publicity for East New York throughout the State of New York.
Black Business Circle supports Mayor Bloomberg’s statement “It doesn’t matter if it’s a corner store or a major retailer opening the mall. The fact is that business is investing in the community – and that tells you that things are changing for the better.”
Walter Campbell, Community Board # 5 of East New York stated “I certainly feel that the community of East New York is progressing rapidly, new homes are being built, no vacant lots, and homes are being sold as fast as they are being built”
Winchester Key, President and CEO of ENY Urban Youth Corp. stated “East New York is on the upswing, and the division of the 75th Precinct into three sectors helped to improve the quality of life in the community. He believes improved quality of life, a new ownership mentality are key contributing factors of the positive change. These changes lead to increased voter registration, expanded educational opportunities and increased business ownership. The Industrial Park area of East New York is expanding, and the changes in East New York are wonderful.”
Lisa Washington has aggressive plans for Economic Development in the East New York; she will be bringing the Service Corp of Retired Executives (SCORE) Counselors to America’s Small Business to Power Up! Total Empowerment Fitness for Today’s Woman on Saturday, June 4, 2005 12:00 noon – 4:00 pm at GBLMB Church located at 1320 Sutter Ave. Brooklyn, New York. Mr. Alvin Roselin, District Manager of SCORE will provide information on SCORE counseling programs for start-up and existing business owners looking to grow their business.
In addition she has recruited the Small Business Administration (SBA) to speak at ManIIMan “Conversations and Dialogue on Empowerment for Brothers”, Saturday, June 11, 2005 from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm at the GBLMB Church located at 1320 Sutter Ave. Brooklyn, New York.
