Debt Shield Supports Art Therapy, Consumer Education
April 20, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Debt Shield today announced that the company’s latest charitable donations went to Art with a Heart and the Better Business Bureau Education Foundation.Art with a Heart is a Baltimore-based organization that provides art programs to disadvantaged families, children and people with development and physical challenges. Because artistic expression is often beyond the reach these families, Art with a Heart provides opportunities for such experiences through a variety of creative and interactive projects in schools, shelters, senior citizen centers and many other sites.
The organization was selected by Debt Shield’s Director of Financial Operations, Karen Hauck.
“I honestly believe in the power of art, not only because I like to draw and paint in my own free time, but also because I’ve seen firsthand the positive impact these programs have on children,” said Hauck.
Hauck said she first learned about Art with a Heart years ago through a newspaper article on its founder, Randi Pupkin, who gave up her career as a successful attorney to begin a more fulfilling endeavor.
Art with a Heart’s annual fundraiser is June 2, 2007, in the downtown Baltimore neighborhood of Canton. For details, or more information about the organization, visit www.artwithaheart.net.
Debt Shield also donated to the BBB Education Foundation, an organization that helps develop a community of informed consumers and educates them on how to avoid scams. Their mission is to educate both individuals and businesses at every economic level to promote understanding of the marketplace.
The Education Foundation was chosen by Debt Shield’s Talent Development Recruiter Brooke Silverberg, who serves on their charitable events planning committee.
“I believe the Education Foundation’s goals are in sync with our own mission,” said Silverberg. “They strive to teach the importance of financial awareness and similar information that tends to be inaccessible to everyday consumers.” Learn more about the Better Business Bureau’s Education Foundation at http://www.baltimore.bbb.org/whoweare.html.
Debt Shield’s donations were made possible by the Denim Fund, an employee-driven fund to collect money from participating employees who choose to wear blue jeans on Fridays. Charities are submitted by employees and selected at random.
