Underground music service Digital Tunes launches!
April 27, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Entertainment News
Digital Tunes is pleased to announce the full launch of its underground download service www.digital-tunes.net on May 7th 2007.
Digital Tunes was founded in 2005 by William Coates and Glenn Grip (aka Physics), who were frustrated with the current crop of digital download services. Their goal was to provide an outlet for quality underground music free of DRM (Digital Rights Management) encumbrances, in high quality, at a sensible price. In addition, the Digital Tunes store aims to provide users with a highly filtered selection: “…we don't just bung any old tracks on there like some stores do. In these days where digital labels are popping up in their thousands we think that selection is more important than ever, because most people don't want to wade through a million dodgy tunes” is the message from managing director William Coates.
The Digital Tunes store was built from the ground up with the music lover and DJ in mind: with no DRM restrictions DJs are free to use their favourite DJ technology
such as Serato Scratch, and all customers are free to play their purchased tunes
on any device they may own. Customers can easily find the tunes they are looking
for thanks to Digital Tunes' instant preview technology, which allows for 'no-click' previews of music. By offering very high quality MP3 downloads and CD quality lossless FLAC downloads Digital Tunes also caters for music lovers and DJs who demand high fidelity and full bass: something that can't be skimped on with underground music styles such as Dubstep.
In the last six months Digital Tunes have been busy striking deals with quality
independent content providers such as Soulseduction (AT), Kudos (UK), Nu Urban
Music (UK), Iris (USA), Triplevision (NL), mTunes (DE), BagPak (USA) and manyothers, to provide customers with the best Broken Beat, Drum and Bass, Deep
House, Downbeat, Dubstep, Experimental, Funk, Hip Hop, House, Soul and Jazz
tunes out there.
The secret behind Digital Tunes' success lies in its custom built store software
built 100% from bleeding edge open source components such as Ruby on Rails,
coupled with a very high level of automation. This means the staff at Digital Tunes can concentrate on sourcing great content and adding new features, with all the mundane tasks such as content ingestion handled automatically by the software. The store is also continously tested using modern automated testing techniques, leaving users with as bug free experience as possible.
To coincide with the main launch, Digital Tunes will be offering 12 free tracks a
day from the www.digital-tunes.net store for a limited period beginning May the
7th. One track will be randomly given to a lucky visitor every two hours, so all the more reason to check out the store today…

Notes for the Editor:
DRM: Digital Rights Management, technology designed to restrict the copying of digital media, such
as Apple's Fairplay technology which limits access to music sold on Apple's iTunes store.
Lossless FLAC download: FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) is an audio format that allows CD quality master recordings to be compressed to almost half the size with no loss in quality.
