Rochester, NY – Rochester’s own Park Ave Bike Shop has been recently named among the nation’s ‘Top 100 Bike Retailers’ for 2007 by Bicycle Retailer and Industry News - a leading, internationally distributed, and well-respected publication. The awards were announced on February 6, 2007 at the Bicycle Leadership Conference (BLC) in San Diego, California. The Bike Shop is the first retailer from the Rochester, Syracuse, or Buffalo area to be listed. Boulder Sports Research Inc., the agency responsible for the ‘Top 100,’ compiled votes from industry sales representatives who selected top bicycle retailers on the basis of market share, store appearance, and community outreach. A listing on the ‘Top 100’ affirms Park Ave Bike Shop’s position as a leading retailer of specialty bikes, and highlights the Bike Shop’s commitment to the Rochester community.
Park Ave Bike Shop’s owner, Andy August, cites its customers and its employees as a primary reason for its success. “I feel honored to have Park Ave Bike Shop on this list. Our employees strive to make each bike a part of our customer’s lives. We realize that its not just a bike – it’s how you use it, and what matters to you. Our professionals do more than just sell bikes, they sell a lifestyle. It’s this kind of service that makes our customers keep coming back to us. I have to thank our loyal customers for helping us achieve such success and embracing us as a proud member of the Rochester community. We love Rochester and we’ll continue to do all we can for it.”
The listing on the ‘Top 100’ complements and reinforces the Bike Shop’s already impressive list of honors. The Bike Shop has consistently been named Rochester’s Best Bike Shop by the Democrat & Chronicle from 2004-2006. Additionally, Park Ave Bike has also earned the 2006 United Way Award of Excellence for outstanding performance in the United Way/Red Cross Campaign.
Over the past two years, the Bike Shop has been able to raise $14,000 for the Otetiana Council of The Boy Scouts of America by hosting the “Hardcore 24,” along with its Park Ave. Mountain Bike Team. The Hardcore 24 is a 24-hour team race, that tests teamwork, endurance, and perseverance, and is the only 24-hour Mountain Bike Race held in New York State. The winner is determined by time, and number of laps completed by their team during the 24-hour period. This year, the third annual Hardcore 24 race will be held at the J. Warren Cutler Boy Scouts reservation in Naples, NY on the weekend of June 16 – June 17. Potential participants are encouraged to register online at http://www.thehardcore24.com. The website also features detailed rules, regulations, and information on lodging at the reservation.
