Family Lifeline Thanks its Volunteers During National Volunteer Appreciation Week

Richmond, Virginia - National Volunteer Appreciation Week is April 15-21, and Family Lifeline (www.familylifeline.org) is taking the opportunity to offer thanks to the people who help the nonprofit organization help residents of the Richmond area. Family Lifeline turns 130-years-old this year, and is fortunate to have the services of 840 volunteers who give their time and effort to better their community. The organization's mission is to change futures for the families they serve, by working with young families, teens in need and the elderly and disabled.

A prime example of the dedication of Family Lifeline's volunteers is Gail Fottrell-Jones, who works with the Family Lifeline program Independence House. Independence House provides young women who have spent their lives in foster care a stable environment in which to live during their transition into adulthood. Residents go to school and are expected to perform a number of duties to keep the house running. Despite having a full time job at Capital One, Mrs. Fottrell-Jones spends several hours each week volunteering at Independence House. Her job as "House Mom" includes mentoring and other tasks like helping with cooking and homework. Mrs. Fottrell-Jones has even made her volunteer work a family affair, frequently bringing her two teenaged daughters, Jenna and Katie, along to help.

"Ms. Fottrell-Jones is a great example of the wonderful people who make Family Lifeline an effective organization," said Family Lifeline President and CEO Reed Henderson. "We simply wouldn't exist without our volunteers, and we can't thank them enough."

Gail Fottrell-Jones and Reed Henderson are available to be interviewed for stories about National Volunteer Appreciation Week. To schedule a time, please call or email the contact given at the top of this release.
