Philadelphia, April 2007— Leading post production facility, Shooters Post & Transfer (www.shootersinc.com), put its comprehensive editorial services to good use by collaborating on a series of award winning spots as recognized by the Philadelphia Ad Club. Working with Philadelphia-based production company, Phasmatrope, and New York City-based ad agency, The Brooklyn Brothers, Shooters provided editorial services for five gold winning spots—two for the Sundance Channel and three for the INHD network.
The spot for the Sundance Channel, ‘Hunter’, also took the “Best of TV” award. In addition to winning gold, Phasmatrope’s spot for INHD titled “Go Reds” won three silver awards. Shooters handled the full-service editorial process, which included editorial and finishing, film transfers and sound design. Shooters also singularly won two silver awards for its ‘Animation’ and ‘Special Effects’ for NCAA Basketball open for the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network and for sound design on the ‘Hunter’ spot. Speaking about his editing work on the celebrated “Best of TV” award spot, ‘Hunter’, Scott Markowitz said: “It’s a nice feeling to know that the work you put into something is appreciated by other professionals.”
The majority of the awards went to a series of humorous spots for INHD (www.inhd.com), one of the top HD networks on cable. Each spot featured a competition theme such as the ‘Pickle Race’ ad, which showcased two nerds eating in a diner who each throw a slice of pickle up against the window to see whose slice will slide down fastest. In all of the INHD spots the editing played a critical role in ‘selling’ the comedic message.
“The spots came down to timing,” said Steve Wheelock, editor, Shooters Post & Transfer. “We were all trying to hit the timing to capture the comedy. Comedic timing is very challenging—the casting was great, the writing was great and the editing had to be spot on.”
In the true spirit of collaboration, founder of ad agency, The Brooklyn Brothers, Guy Barnett, said much of the commercial process is about keeping the integrity of the original idea while allowing other creative people to make their contribution.
“The more people involved the harder that becomes,” said Barnett. “One of the reasons I like working with Shooters is that the sound guys, the editors, the colorists and conformers are all across the corridor from each other and they work together daily. They are already a team. That allows you to focus on what really matters: making the spots as successful as they can be.”
“It’s great for us to be involved in these spots where our staff could participate in a project that was not only fun but challenging,” said Ray Carballada, COO of Shooters Post & Transfer. “Our creative staff love working on these kinds of spots.”
