Power Pill are proud to be sponsoring Linton Stutely, Formula Ford driver for the Getem team. The season kicked off on Monday 9th April at Oulton Park, with a crowd in excess of 40,000 to see all the action from a variety of cars and classes, including British Formula 3, British GT Championship, Caterham Superlights, Ginetta Sportscars, VW Cup and of course the Formula Ford series.Preparations began during Saturday and Sunday, making sure all was well with the car technically, as well as preparing all of the sponsors logos. As you can see, Power Pill were the main sponsors for the Oulton Park races, and the car looked fantastic.
The race itself day started bright and early with a 9am, 20 minute qualifying session for the Formula Ford teams. Linton, in his new car with the Premier Power engine and Mygale chassis, made an excellent start, qualifying 3rd on the grid with a time of 1.41.586, just 0.772 behind pole (click here to see a detailled times). After qualifying so well, Linton commented…
“With a whole new team, engine and chassis in place for this season, testing throughout February went extremely well, but there is always aprehension when it comes to the real thing, so qualifying so high up the grid for the first race of the season is very pleasing for myself, the sponsors and all the team”.
With the car running so well in qualifying there was little needing to be changed before the first race at 12.30pm, so once the car had completed post-qualifying scruteneering and data checks, Linton carried out sponsorship duties, meeting fans, posing for pictures and signing autographs. Linton is very keen to promote the sport to the younger generation, and kids had the opportunity to see the car and even have their picture taken sitting on the wheel of the high powered race car.
Many thousands of race-goers in attandance had the chance to meet the Power Pill team, headed by CEO Leon Warner, and there was a huge level of interest in the product from fans, teams, engine manufacturers and event sponsors alike…
“We are very proud and delighted to be supporting Linton at the start of what already has become a very promising season. We are looking forward to developing both Linton and Getem racing into the most talked about and accessible team in Formula Ford”.
The race itself was a closely fought affair with Linton in the thick of things from the outset. Places changed hands during the 11 lap race, with Linton finishing in a very respectable 6th place from a field of 24. As previously mentioned, with everything surrounding the team new, Linton was delighted with this first result…
“Now that I am racing in a competitive car at the front end of the grid I know I have a lot to learn in terms of overtaking and outbraking drivers who have the car to race me on level terms, and I know, even after this first race, where improvements can be made. I am pleased with the start I have made, and grateful to all those who have given me this great start to the season…my team, engineers, loyal supporters, and especially Power Pill UK Ltd for their help, support and advice in moving the team forward”.
Unfortunately the 2nd race scheduled for the day had to be postponed due to racing incidents in the British Formula 3 race – several high speed crashes caused lengthy delays, but the race will be rescheduled at a later meeting, with Linton again qualifying in 3rd place on the grid.
Linton went straight back to testing at Donington Park the day after the race at Oulton Park. The next Formula Ford racing weekend will be held on 21st-22nd April at Donington Park, and Power Pill are again the main sponsors of Linton Stutely. We invite everyone to come down and see the car and meet Linton in person.
