(WASHINGTON, DC) March 2007- Actor Andre Royo of HBO’s acclaimed drama series “The Wire” will be speaking to area youth involved with the Sasha Bruce Youthwork Inc. (SBY). Royo who plays “Bubbles” will be sharing the importance of goal setting and staying away from youth pitfalls such as peer pressure, drugs and gangs. The discussion will take place at the SBY Center (741 8th Street SE) on Monday, March 26th. “I am really excited about my appearance at Sasha Bruce Youthwork!” exclaimed Royo. “It’s when I am able to connect directly with the youth they can believe they can set, go after, and reach their dreams too.”
The talented actor also plans to make a special appearance at Tuesday, March 27th’s city council meeting. His presence is an effort to bring awareness to city leaders about the importance of supporting non-profits that work with at-risk teenagers like
Sasha Bruce Youthwork, Inc.
Sasha Bruce Youthwork delivers comprehensive services to meet the urgent needs of at-risk youth and their families and is a key provider of youth and family services in Washington, D.C. and the surrounding community. As a private, non-profit agency, SBY offers unique programs designed to provide a wide-range of services to young people and their families.
SBY views youth and families as having the strengths and competence for creating solutions to their problems and for improving their lives. A family or youth who believes they have the ability to change and can envision a life without the presence of a particular conflict is more apt to attempt to be successful in changing.
