The Southeast Senior Center for Independent Living (SESCIL), situated at 228 Grand Avenue, Englewood, New Jersey, has now perfected many kinds of social and human services that it delivers to its senior members free of cost. Its certified social worker focuses on all types of senior issues and problems. For instance, she assists SESCIL members, on a one-to-one basis, in getting benefits such as Medicaid, SSI, Food Stamps, PAAD, Senior Gold, Medicare D Prescriptions, Heat and Energy Assistance, Homestead and NJ Saver Rebates, as well as providing them with information on Medigap insurance and housing related issues, plus other entitlements. She also gives them advice on long-term healthcare, budgeting or billing problems, and – when needed – she makes referrals on their behalf to other agencies throughout the county or state.
In addition, SESCIL’s social worker helps seniors deal with various emotional issues through their active participation in regular support groups, for example:
- A weekly group, As Life Changes, which deals with issues relating to inter-family relationships and problems that arise through aging
- The Cancer Support group, which meets monthly
- The Bereavement group, which also meets monthly
Members feel relaxed and more at ease when discussing their problems in a safe and supportive environment.
Membership at SESCIL is free, and there is no charge for meeting the social worker or participating in any of the group sessions. For more information, you may call 201-569-4080, or simply go online to SESCIL’s Website at www.sescil.org.
