Michael Packer's new release 'The Sunny Side of Me' is special. The cover art and lyrics to the title song are created by 8 year old Gabby Kasper from Albany NY Packer returns to his early singer/songwriter folk-country roots of his Atlantic and RCA recordings 'Papa Nebo' and 'Free Beer'with songs about love,love lost,missed opportunities and about his beloved city New Orleans. Included in the the new CD are 6 new originals by Packer,2 by Grammy award winning songwriter Hugh Prestwood,'Time,Time,Time','Dorothy' and "Pinto Pony' by Folk-icon Paul Siebel, a major hit recorded by Linda Ronstadt and Bonnie Raitt.Of Gabby Kasper,Packer explains 'The daughter of one of my oldest friends came to me with the lyric of 'Sunny Side'and it just knocked me out.I had to write a song for it and base my album around it using her cover art as well.
Hugh Prestwood's 'Dorothy' tells the story of Dorothy Gale of the Wizard of Oz in the years after she left Oz and returned to Kansas.'No way you can stand Kansas, when you've been to Oz'. the lyric reads.This is the first male version of this song which has been recorded by Judy Collins and Jackie DeShannon.A fan recently wrote,'Michael Packer is one of the best kept secrets in the US'.
