From now until April 14th, the public is invited to take a glimpse of the latest inspirational and innovative exhibition featured at the MacLarenArtCentre. Enduring Women: Veils of Secrecy, is a powerful and thought-provoking exhibition that confronts the sensitive issue of violence against women, while also raising community consciousness. This touring exhibition uses mixed media as its canvas, and has been received with much acclaim. The exhibition’s images and sounds remind gallery-goers that in each community acts of violence against women do indeed exist; and the victims as well as perpetrators come from every social and economic background.
In this first time collaboration between male and female artists Gerald Pedros and Sylvia Curtiss-Norcross, ‘Enduring Women’ delivers a powerful body of work. While this particular subject matter is predominantly undertaken by female artists, an interpretation from a male artist’s perspective takes these images to another level.
This supportive and interactive exhibition allows the audience to participate in a safe environment by sharing their stories and personal experiences with violence. The cathartic process directly enhances the captivating content of the exhibition, which runs until April 14th.
