Charlottesville, VA: The Foundation For Cancer Research and Education (FCRE) announced today that renowned prostate oncologist and prostate cancer survivor, Dr. Charles "Snuffy" Myers, will give a lecture called “New Hope For Prostate and Breast Cancer Survivors” at Westminster at Lake Ridge, VA on March 17, 2007 from 9:30 AM—12:30 PM. To promote wellness and overall health, the meeting also includes a heart-safe breakfast for all attendees. Sponsors include The Virginia Prostate Cancer Coalition, Us TOO, Westminster at Lake Ridge, Potomac Hospital, and FCRE.This will be the third time Myers presents to Lake Ridge’s Us TOO support group and he’s eager to share his expertise on topics, such as prostate cancer research, screening tests, diagnosis, and treatment as well as answer any questions about breast cancer. “The information Dr. Myers imparts is always the very latest available, offering new hope for men and women alike,” notes Richard Gillespie, head of the Lake Ridge Us TOO Chapter and also the VPCC Board Chairman.
“Too often patients become marginalized because no one wants to talk about cancer,” Myers adds. “FCRE gives these patients a voice that nobody can ignore.”
Designed to meet the needs of the newly diagnosed as well as the advanced patient, FCRE’s lectures offer essential information patients can use tomorrow, providing support group members, their wives, fellow Westminster residents, and Northern Virginia breast cancer survivors with much-needed comfort and camaraderie that crosses gender boundaries.
"I think it’s important that both prostate and breast cancer survivors unite on the message that their diagnosis is NOT a death sentence,” Myers says. "From diet and lifestyle changes to combinations of hormonal therapy, radiation therapy, and surgery, patients today have more options at their disposal than ever before—and more options means more hope to survive and thrive.”
The program, located at Westminster at Lake Ridge, 12191 Clipper Drive, Lake Ridge, VA, is free of charge. For information or directions please call Dick Gillespie at 703-497-0628
