Thieme Wins First Prize in Clinical Medicine From Association of American Publishers

New York/Stuttgart - Thieme Publishers is pleased to announce that the two volume set, Atlas of Neurosurgical Techniques: Brain and Atlas of Neurosurgical Techniques: Spine and Peripheral Nerves, by Richard G. Fessler, M.D., Ph.D., and Laligam Sekhar, M.D., F.A.C.S., has won first prize in Clinical Medicine from the Association of American Publishers’ 2006 PSP Awards for Excellence.

Awards are given in 30 categories for outstanding books, journals, and digital products covering a wide range of academic disciplines. The awards were presented at a special luncheon during the Professional and Scholarly Publishing Division Annual Conference in Washington DC.

AAP, the national trade association of the U.S. book publishing industry, consists of more than 300 members and includes the majority of commercial publishers in the United States as well as private and non-profit publishers, university presses, and scholarly societies.

Dr. Richard Glenn Fessler is the John Harper Seeley Professor and Chief in the Section of Neurosurgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Chicago Hospitals in Chicago. He is a leading authority on minimally invasive spine surgery. Dr. Sekhar is the William Joseph Leedom and Bennett Bigelow and Leedom Professor and the Vice Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Washington Harborview Medical Center located in Seattle. He is a pioneer of numerous brain surgery techniques and is currently president-elect of the World Federation of Skull Base Societies.
