The New York Times calls Tamango, “one of the great tap artists performing today … a dancer of astonishing speed and lightness whose feet produce a rippling, richly complex cannonade of tap beats.”

Tamango and his dance company Urban Tap are coming to The Ridgefield Playhouse for Movies and the Performing Arts on Sunday, March 4 at 5 p.m. A special master class for students attending the show will take place in the Ridgefield Playhouse rehearsal space the day before, Saturday, March 3 at 4 p.m.; reservations are required and a limited number of students are able to attend this class. This not-to-miss dance group is funded in part by the National Dance Project of the New England Foundation for the Arts and it is partially underwritten by the Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance.

A master tap dancer, Tamango incorporates a unique blend of jazz, tap and Afro Caribbean dance, which the press has recognized as his signature style. His knowledge of music and history has allowed him to open the doors for musicians, dancers, singers, deejays and video artists who participate in collaboration and improvisation. Urban Tap is an ongoing project moving forward while bringing together creative souls in syncopated jazz where tapping is king. In short, Urban Tap is for all who thrive on rhythm, enjoy movement and recognize tap dancing as the art it is.
