February 26, 2007 - SAN BRUNO, Calif. — PBwiki, the world's largest wiki hosting provider, announced the completion of its Series B fundraising round as of February 21, 2007. This venture capital investment followed an earlier round by angel investors in August of 2006. The investment reflects the explosive growth in the market for consumer wikis (including Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) acquisition of JotSpot in 2006) as well PBwiki's leadership of the sector.

Wikis, such as the popular Wikipedia, are easy-to-use web pages that let multiple people collaborate. PBwiki users have created wikis to plan events, manage work projects, and collaborate on hobbies. PBwiki's most popular categories include education and business wikis. PBwiki has grown to host well over 150,000 wikis and hosts millions of visitors per month. "Someone edits a PBwiki every 3 seconds," said Nathan Schmidt, PBwiki's CTO.

http://elothtes.pbwiki.com, for example, is a popular wiki that lets thousands of people share information about a fantasy world online. Another wiki, http://mrlindsay.pbwiki.com, highlights the collaboration between students and instructor on a classroom wiki.

PBwiki raised $2 million from Mohr Davidow Ventures and other private investors. "Even though we hadn't been looking to raise money, MDV's vision for the service closely aligned with our own," said David Weekly, the CEO of PBwiki. "They really understood the team and the product and made us a compelling offer. We're looking forward to using the funds to make PBwiki easier to use and really expand the definition of what a hosted solution can do for a group."

Funding was officially announced on Wednesday, February 21, 2007.
