FDA Announces Clearance for Radiesse – a New Longer Lasting Filler Designed to Both Fill and Volumize Facial Wrinkles and Laugh Lines

Beverly Hills, CA — Radiesse, the next-generation dermal cosmetic filler, has just received FDA clearance to treat moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles, including nasolabial folds. Radiesse was rated the most effective and longest lasting treatment to restore fullness and a youthful appearance for women and men.

Fillers have become increasingly popular as an alternative to a face-lift, and consumer demand will explode now that prices have dropped, analysts say. Cost has discouraged the spread of “facial contouring”, which requires several syringes of material. Which is why the approval of Radiesse in the United States is such big news — Radiesse will cost a patient roughly $850 a year versus $2,400 for comparable enhancement with Restylane.

BioForm Medical, Inc., the manufacturer of Radiesse, gained approval for the filler after showing proven results from a multi-center study using Radiesse for the treatment of smile lines. The study by Marion Moers-Carpi, M.D. showed that Radiesse lasted significantly longer than Restylane and that if offered “better correction throughout the course of treatment.” Experience shows that Radiesse lasts about twice as long as Restylane.
