MELODRAMATIC.COM CELEBRATES 5 YEARS AS HIPSTER UNDERGROUND COMMUNITY

In celebration of its 5 year anniversary as a community website, Melodramatic.com has decided to announce to the world that it does indeed exist.With 300,000+ registered members and the strongest community of artistic, passionate, and freethinking individuals that you will find on the Internet, Melodramatic.com — also affectionately referred to as Melo — has ramped up its promotions in an effort to raise awareness about its unique niche on the web.
Touted as "the soul of the Internet", Melo has always been popular with the underground youth, providing a home to subcultures like emo, goth, punk rock and other cultural blends of madness and moodiness. In recent years however, Melo has started to find a home with a less genre-specific crowd, but still maintains its artistic and passionate roots.
"People's lives unfold on this website, in the most intimate and unbelievable ways sometimes," says the site's founder Sara Sioux. "I live for drama and its like watching a soap opera logging onto Melo. You never know what juicy little tidbit you're going to find."
With all of the standard blogging and social networking features plus a host of incentives driven by "karma" — the site's way of rewarding people for interacting in the community — it's no surprise that the underground website has experienced a recent explosion in interest and traffic.
Unlike the other "blogging" sites out there, Melodramatic.com has made a great effort to take its community offline and into the real world whenever possible, hosting regular meetup events like bonfires, pool halls, and coffee shops, and raging house parties all over the world.
"You're a star at a Melo party, no matter who you are," says Maggie Fiasco, the site's #1 hit whore (a title given to members who get the most visits). "We're unique and crazy. I mean, what other website crams 300 of our closest friends into a house, clogs up the plumbing, goes through 9 handles of Jack Daniels and never disappoints?"
In an effort to keep the community vibe close-knit in light of all the new registrations, Sara Sioux released the annual State of the Website Address for 2007 as an in-depth analysis of what the community is, where its going, and how to keep it feeling small while growing large.
"I'm trying to avoid the problems Myspace has with spam bots and predators," Sara Sioux says, "By avoiding the traditional 'matchmaking' features it makes it easier for people to just be themselves, instead of a 16 F from Arizona."
