The Sedona Conference® Explores the Future of the Attorney-Client Privilege

SEDONA, AZ – The Sedona Conference®, a nonprofit law and policy think-tank based in Sedona, AZ, announced the faculty and topics for its Ninth Annual Conference on Complex Litigation to be held at the Hilton Sedona Resort on April 26-27, 2007. The blue-ribbon faculty for the conference on the future of the attorney client privilege includes three sitting federal judges, leading professors of evidence and civil procedure law, experienced litigators from the U.S. and England, in-house counsel from major corporations in the U.S. and Canada, and others.

Using the unique small-group, dialogue-based Sedona Conference® approach, this all-star faculty will address such topics as the history and current health of the attorney-client privilege; comparative approaches to privilege in the US, UK, Canada and EU; proposed Federal Rule of Evidence 502 and the “Attorney-Client Privilege Protection Act;” federal investigations, the "Thompson/McNulty” Memo, and waivers of privilege in exchange for leniency; subpoenas and requests to lawyers to disclose attorney-client communications; privilege and work product protection in the document preservation and collection process; preparation of effective privilege logs in complex litigation; judicial viewpoints on privilege logs and in camera review, privilege protective orders and cost-effective complex case management; and the ethical issues surrounding privilege, work product, and the discovery of expert witnesses.
