Amaze and Amateur Boxing Association of England delivers a knockout event

London, 2nd February 2007: Amaze, a web technology solutions company, has enabled the Amateur Boxing Association of England Ltd (ABAE) to cover live the UK Amateur National Boxing Championships online for the first time. Using an interactive website with streaming capabilities, developed by Amaze, nearly 3,500 fans recently watched the 12 fight event live at www.abae.co.uk.

Amaze managed the entire process for ABAE, working with its streaming partner Groovy Gecko to adapt the BBC footage for live distribution via the web. Amaze chose Tridion’s Web Content Management solution to build the infrastructure of the new site. This allowed Amaze to design and developed the site using popular and accessible development tools and applications such as html and Windows Media Player to encourage as many fans as possible to view the fight online.

The website went live one hour before the fight enabling fans to log in and log out as they wish. Viewers could also choose to follow their favourite boxer rather than being committed to watching the five hour event in its entirety.

“As a national governing body, we are responsible for the development and promotion of amateur boxing throughout the UK. Working with Amaze has helped us bring amateur boxing to a wider audience rather than simply relying on traditional outlets such as TV. We continue to inspire people to follow or even take up amateur boxing, which has in the past has produced the likes of Amir Khan,” said Paul King, Chief Executive of the ABAE.

“We were able to provide the ABAE with a high-quality but cost effective way of broadcasting a major boxing event. By producing a simple but effective site that looks and feels like the main ABAE site, we were able to help the association promote amateur boxing and provide fans with access to one of the most exciting events on the amateur boxing calendar,” explained Stuart Melhuish, CEO, Amaze.


The streaming of the UK National Boxing Championships was the second event Amaze has worked with the ABAE on. Earlier in the year, Amaze provided fans with access to 30 second clips of the England vs. Russia boxing event. The project has been a success with over 4,000 fans so far downloading the footage from the ABAE website.
