World Economic Forum Selects Kenyan Filmmaker as Young Global Leader

Salim Amin, award-winning filmmaker and Chief Executive Officer of Camerapix of Kenya, has been selected by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader 2007.

Awarded each year to 250 of the world’s most distinguished young leaders under the age of 41, this supreme honour was bestowed on Mr. Amin “to recognize and acknowledge his professional accomplishments, his commitment to society and his potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world.”

Chaired by Her Majesty Queen Rania of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Selection Committee comprised 34 eminent international media leaders including Marjorie Scardino, Chief Executive, Pearson, United Kingdom; Arthur Sulzberger, Chairman and Publisher, The New York Times, United States; Tom Glocer, Chief Executive, Reuters, United Kingdom; Hisashi Hieda, Chairman and Chief Executive, Fuji Television Network, Japan.

Mr. Amin, who was selected unbeknownst to him from a pool of over 4000 candidates, joins a cohort of business leaders, as well as leaders from governments, academia, media and society at large spanning more than 70 countries. Mr. Amin’s peers in the current community of 416 Young Global Leaders include Larry Page and Sergey Brin, co-founders of Google; and Mikheil Saakashvili, President of the Democratic Republic of Georgia.

In his commendation delivered in Switzerland to Mr. Amin’s class of 2007, Klaus Schwab, Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, said:

“Confronting and tackling global challenges will require fresh, strategic thinking from global leaders, as well as innovative and truly international solutions based on global collaboration.”

“This unique global network has the potential to tackle global challenges through knowledge sharing and leveraging horizontal networks of collaborative platforms. Together, they form a powerful international force for the global common good.”

Mr. Amin will travel to Dalian, China in September for the Annual Summit where he will meet his fellow Leaders and participate in the 2030 Initiative and related project work.
