Unicoi Systems’ IP Media Platform Powers Breakthrough $150 “LiteComputer”
January 29, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
ATLANTA (January 29, 2007) – Unicoi Systems, a leading provider of multimedia software and product realization services, today announced that its engineering team designed and developed the breakthrough $150 “LiteComputer” from Lite Appliances. The design is based on Unicoi’s IP media platform, a comprehensive suite of multimedia software and hardware that delivers an unmatched user experience. Unicoi Systems will demonstrate its IP media platform and the LiteComputer at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, January 8-11, 2007.“The performance and versatility of Unicoi’s media platform enabled us to create an innovative and easy-to-use device with superior video, audio and communications quality,” said Jack Knocke, Sr. Vice President of Business Development, Lite Appliances. “Working with the Unicoi team was easy as well. They demonstrated a depth of expertise in the consumer electronics space, and met our stringent development deadlines.”
Unicoi’s IP media platform, which is built around a Blackfin® Processor from Analog Devices, Inc. (NYSE: ADI), helps product developers quickly and affordably transform product concepts into production-ready designs. The platform offers everything a user needs to take advantage of the Internet, including:
- An Internet browser to view websites, get email or download music and videos
- A media player to playback music and videos
- Instant messaging to stay in immediate contact with friends, family and co-workers
- A VoIP softphone to take advantage of low-cost Internet calling
Further distinguishing Unicoi’s IP media platform is the virtual elimination of security and maintenance concerns. The platform does not require an expensive Microsoft operating system or a corruptible hard drive. Instead, the platform runs on Unicoi’s Fusion Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) and uses flash memory.
“We believe that Unicoi’s IP media platform is well positioned to benefit from the surge in popularity of IP media devices, such as phones, personal media players, mobile TVs and PDAs” said Greg Coonley, CEO of Unicoi Systems. “Our platform is ideal for innovative companies like Lite Appliances that want to build products to take advantage of the Internet’s multimedia content and inexpensive VoIP solutions, while avoiding the security and maintenance issues associated with less advanced media platforms.”
