Internet boss pays crazy money for servers.co.uk

The UK’s Best Hosting Provider UKFast announces its success in a private bidding war for one of the industry’s hottest domain names: servers.co.uk. The five figure sum that beat off some of the world’s largest server manufacturers is thought to be the highest paid for a .co.uk domain name.

IBM is amongst those who expressed interest in the domain attaching their own price tag of £40k. Lawrence Jones, MD of UKFast is not revealing the final sum required to secure the name but says he wouldn’t sell it now, not even for £1m.

“The long term gains will far out way the initial outlay,” says Jones. “Google encourages businesses to fine tune websites, making them as potent as possible for customers. In line with this, the industry is about to see a new level of commitment to deliver relevant search results through servers.co.uk.”

Internet marketing consultancy Harper James assisted UKFast with the acquisition. Laura Blizard, marketing manager says the ISP is in an advantageous position. “Servers.co.uk offers numerous routes to market in this search driven climate. Key generic names allow closer proximity to product and customer base, whilst dramatically improving association of product to brand identity.”

The acquisition comes at an exciting time for UKFast. The UK ISP, twice winner of the ISPA hosting award, capped off a record breaking 2006, in which the company doubled turnover, by receiving registered trademark status. “Servers.co.uk begins the new year as we mean to go on,” says Jones. “It reinforces our ambition to manage a network of the UK’s best businesses.”
