Della Manley's first album, Ashes on the Window Sill received considerable critical acclaim both in and outside of Jamaica. Two years in the making, and eight years after Ashes, Barbican Square is very much the product of Della's artistic and personal growth. The CD was officially launched in Jamaica at a live function on the 29th of June. The album has been released for Caribbean distribution by dellaM productions, and is available at major music outlets and on the internet at EthnicExchange.com, http://www.ethnicexchange.com.
About the Artist
Della Manley, the daughter-in-law of the late Prime Minister of Jamaica, Michael Manley, has performed from New York to Barbados and has opened shows for The Mighty Diamonds and Beres Hammond in Central Park, New York at the the Jamaica Tourist Board’s, Jamaica Jamboree. She has been featured in several magazines and has been described by one review as having a range and expressive voice that often blurs the stylistic lines between folk and pop.
And in the words of the late Prime Minister of Jamaica; “Della’s lyrics occupy that territory that hovers between protest and irony. The imagery is evocative, and the mood nostalgic, as if lamenting a lost world of hope and truth, her voice has the smoky resonance of a natural vehicle for the message… her strength lies ultimately in her sense of truth; her refusal to sell illusions. The message is as haunting as the voice.”
