The new documentary DVD by Majorscale Productions, THE WAR WITHIN THE WAR -TALES FROM THE 222 tells the untold story of the Iraq war without political agenda!"I don’t think the Media really cares about the soldiers, they care about their bottom line" … "Most Americans know, at least the educated ones, that the media focuses on the negative because that’s what sells." These are actual quotes from American veterans recently returned from Iraq featured in the hard hitting documentary, THE WAR WITHIN THE WAR, TALES FROM THE 222. "It is not the typical story we hear of in the nightly news" said local Writer and Narrator Jeff Gallup. The film features accounts of the battle in Iraq as told in the words of the Veterans themselves.
Interviewing members of the Utah National Guard’s famed Triple Deuce (222nd field artillery battalion), Director Brady Tuckett unveils a candid (and sometimes gut wrenching) portrait of eight soldiers and officers who tell a very different story about Iraq, not the usual daily body count depicted in the mainstream media of late. Command Sgt. Major Rick Brown said, "The only thing the Media ever wanted to know was …what’s it like being shot at or how many people have you killed today?"
Cross cutting between interviews conducted in October 2006 and actual footage shot by members of the battalion while deployed on various missions in Ramadi Iraq last year, THE WAR WITHIN THE WAR, TALES FROM THE 222 chronicles the compelling and inspiring true stories of these ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances.
The nature of any conflict whether fought on the shores of distant lands or in our own homes is such that it has the capacity to tear apart the human family – be they Muslim, Christian, or Agnostic. Avoiding the rendering of an opinion on the politics and controversy of Iraq, Director Brady Tuckett has allowed the soldiers to render their own opinions and pose questions on a whole range of issues and ideas as disparate as divine intervention and the true nature of the unseen enemy, one that actually may lie within one’s self.
Following the members of the Triple Deuce as they leave home, fight the war, face the unseen enemy and finally return home, the film provides a palpable and almost visceral understanding of the soldier’s experience. Each scene has a touchstone effect as diverse and intriguing as they are informative. Neither parochial or provincial in it’s approach, THE WAR WITHIN THE WAR - TALES FROM THE 222 is thought provoking and revealing; part news piece, part euro-styled art film, it packs a surprise twist in the conclusion that will leave audience’s everywhere astonished. 45 minutes.
