Atlanta, GA—McDonald Media is pleased to announce the newest group of photo-illustrations in the “Old World” series by Rob McDonald.

“Portrait of a Cellar” contains seven limited edition photo-illustrations that together portray a passion for rare and special wine.

Photographed on location in one of the United States’ most formidable wine cellars, these compositions showcase rare 18th century bottles as well as more contemporary favorites. Included in the works are images of a 1784 Chateau Lafite Rothschild; a 1787 Chateau d’Yquem; several elusive cult collectibles including an assortment of Gaja wines from the 1950’s and 1960’s; some more recent Sine Qua Non bottles as well as an arrangement of Giuseppe Quintarelli’s wines with hand-written labels.

Though the collectors behind these bottles wish to remain anonymous, they gave McDonald free reign to photograph any aspect he desired of their impressive wine collection. Turning his lens on the extraordinary, he explains: “Rather than capture the cellar architecturally, I focused on some of the details that intrigued me—rarity, age and what I found artistically appealing.”

Appreciating the priceless nature of many of the bottles he shot, McDonald looks at this new body of work with a down to earth approach. “Most wine and art lovers realize that they will never actually own an artifact as precious as the 1784 Lafite. And if they could, they would never open it. But through my work, in a way, they can own it, and they can certainly enjoy it.”

Prices for these limited edition giclees begin at $700. Each is printed on canvas and signed and numbered by the artist. The work is available for purchase and may be viewed online at www.mcdonald-media.com. More information is also available at 404-355-4507.

Rob’s unique visual expressions are created with traditional photographic methods infused with layers of digital painting and artistic manipulation. At their heart, these images reflect Rob’s love of life and the finer things—including food, wine and travel.
