Irvington, NY - Squidoo.com this week announced the latest in a flurry of recent partners, ranging from big name media companies to some of the country’s leading nonprofit organizations. The site now funnels donations and traffic to 65 nonprofits, as part of its mission to raise a hundred million dollars for charity. With nearly 60,000 user-generated pages pointing to the best stuff online and donating royalties to worthy causes along the way, Squidoo is the fastest-growing philanthropic community site on the web.
How does it work? By creating easy-to-build pages on any topic, Squidoo visitors accrue royalties that can be donated to participating charities. Nearly half of Squidoo's users are donating their royalties to charity.
Some of Squidoo’s recent nonprofit partners include the ASPCA, NPR, Earthjustice, Kiva, Eco-Trust, Grameen Foundation and Save the Children.
Squidoo is dedicated to helping these partner nonprofits empower their own support bases by providing a new, quick, free way to contribute, and giving nonprofits branding and outgoing links on pages built by their friends and members.
“Charities are increasingly aware of the new opportunities of Org 2.0,” said Megan Casey, editor in chief of the site. “Squidoo nonprofit partners understand that every page someone builds on Squidoo can start sending microdonations, for free, forever, instantly." Every page also has the potential to share a message with thousands of new supporters.
Nonprofits aren’t the only ones jumping on board with Squidoo’s awareness-building initiatives. Sports Illustrated recently partnered with Squidoo in an effort to extend the reach of its brand while engaging its most enthusiastic football fans. Squidoo now hosts Sports Illustrated Headquarters for every NFL team, making it simple for fans to create lenses about their hometown favorites. Similarly, RollingStone.com hosted a "Vote for the Best Album of 2006" challenge, inviting their community to make traffic-generating Squidoo pages about their favorite artists and bands.
