Paris, France – May 11th, 2004 – XandMail SA, the digital communication solutions provider, today announced that Orange France, France's leading mobile phone operator, has chosen the XandMail MultiMedia Center server software as the foundation component of its advanced multimedia services. Orange France was seeking a customer-oriented solution with strong scalability and a rich set of functionalities capable of supporting its long-term vision of multimedia messaging.Orange's new services will provide mobile users with on-line resources to compose, store and send multimedia messages (MMS) and to manage the multimedia components of these messages, such as pictures, photos, text and sound or voice clips. These services will be accessible either from Orange MMS- or WAP-enabled mobile phones or through a standard web interface.
"XandMail's solution allows Orange to provide a full MMS service immediately to all its customers. Orange subscribers will be able to compose, store, send and receive MMS messages whether their mobile phone is MMS enabled or not,' said Julien Billot, Marketing Director of Orange France.
Orange's MMS platform includes three key modules provided by XandMail: a multimedia storage server, a front-end application to compose MMS and a viewer to play MMS.
- XandMail Multimedia Storage (XMS) is a multi-format storage server with multimedia management functionality, including automatic thumbnail creation, image manipulation (rotate, flip, crop), automatic image conversion and sound conversion (WAV to AMR).
- XandMail Multimedia Composer (XMC) is a feature-rich web-based application for users who prefer the comfort of a web-interface to create their MMS messages or who have non-multimedia enabled mobile phones. XMC also supports MMS compose function directly from a WAP-enabled phone.
- XandMail Multimedia Viewer (XMV) allows subscribers to replay their MMS messages from their computers, it also allows users without MMS-enabled mobile phones to access and store their MMS either through a web interface or a WAP interface.
Orange customers with MMS-enabled mobile phones will be able to view and store their MMS messages directly from their handset. Those who do not have the MMS-enabled device will receive a text message with ID and password directing them to Orange's Web site where, they will have online access to the whole messages, including photos and sound. Orange customers will also be able to store MMS messages in their own storage account.
"We are delighted by Orange France's decision to select XandMail for its MMS management platform' said Ky-Ming Jen, Chief Operating Officer of XandMail. "This success, for such a mission-critical platform, confirms XandMail's position as a leading provider of carrier-scale messaging solutions for mobile operators'.
