Pensito Review's Penny Awards Survey the Most Worthless of 2006

The editors of Pensito Review, the news and culture commentary Web site, have announced the recipients of the inaugural edition of the Penny Awards, which recognize the most worthless human beings, institutions and events of the preceding year.

The Penny Awards were conceived as representing the lowest denomination coin of the realm — which fully 80 percent of Americans disdain to bend over and pick up when encountered on the street — as an apt symbol of worthlessness.

The inaugural 2006 Penny Awards recognize worthlessness that ranges from professional sports as a time- and money-wasting pastime to celebrity parents who use their children to garner column inches in newspapers and face time on television to worthless homosexuals who give "gay" a bad name.

"End-of-year retrospectives are the stock-in-trade of publications of conscience," said Pensito Review Editor-In-Chief Jon Ponder. "But we felt the whole 'worthless' angle was underserved by existing EOY lists, so we plumbed the depths of worthlessness in 2006, of which there were many, many examples."

"The Penny Awards, or 'Pennys,' enable us to put in our two cent’s worth of commentary on the penny ante antics of people in the news, organizations that promote worthless agendas and anything else we decry as having no redeeming — or indeed any — value at all," said Pensito Review Editor Trish. "It's as if someone said, 'A penny for your thoughts,' and we gave them a whole dollar's worth."

"I was intrigued by the existential possibilities presented by an exploration of worthlessness," said Pensito Review Editor Buck. "How do people who lead such worthless lives go on living with no sense of self-worth or value? And are we really worthy to assess another’s relative worth? You bet!"
