Budapestlets partner Gordon Cross described how he arrived in Budapest and identified a significant opportunity in the property market for renovating and refurbishing traditional buildings which could then be marketed as serviced apartment accommodation for the rapidly expanding tourist market. Together with his Hungarian partner he purchased and renovated a small number of period buildings before approaching a number of UK based contacts who quickly joined Gordon in investing in property having fallen for the charms of the great city. Since that early phase the business has grown and Budapestlets.com has a thriving web site and rapidly expanding portfolio of properties which it manages. In a little over two years the company has developed a portfolio of 14 properties which are let on a short term basis and have recently opened an office with a target of developing a portfolio of up to 100 properties which they aim to manage and let on a long term basis. As Gordon commented “the key to a successful expatriate business in Budapest is to offer a high standard of service and make sure that you deliver. There are plenty of competitors but many do not offer anything of a suitable standard to meet the expectations of Western visitors or multi national corporations who are looking for and expecting higher standards of accommodation and service from their rental accommodation”
The company have recently opened an office in the ninth district of the city and expect 2007 to the breakthrough year for the business which is starting to reap the rewards for all of the hard work and effort that is necessary in making an overseas business opportunity a success.
