A local Cary resident with a dream to sell her home and a determined real estate team will soon be the feature of HGTV’s hit reality show “Buy Me.” Though many of the details must remain undisclosed until the show airs in 2007, listing agent and president of Town & Country Realty Mike Montpetit, discussed some of the details about how the popular reality TV show comes together behind the scenes. “They [the HGTV crew] came in and installed hidden cameras throughout the house, then recorded hours of normally private conversations between our team and the seller about pricing, market conditions, staging, decorating, repairs, amenities—everything that affects the sale of the house,” says Montpetit.
In addition to conversations between real estate agent and seller, cameras also captured conversations and reactions of potential buyers touring the home. Following the sale of the home, the countless hours of candid video and recorded interviews will be condensed into a dramatic 20 minute show documenting the highlights of the entire project and educating home sellers along the way.
The Cary NC real estate team and its featured home were chosen to appear on the show from a pool of applicants because of their unique partnership. The featured home suffered a problem shared by many American homes; an abundance of clutter that would make it difficult to market.
Producers felt that the combination of this home with Town & Country Realty, renowned for its expertise with staging homes to enter the market, would be the foundation of show that was both humorous and educational for home sellers.
The company’s full service team is good at taking the “diamond in the rough and making it stand out on the market,” says Town and Country’s client care manager Janette Wilson. Between agent Susan Montpetit’s designation as a member of the One Day Decorator Alumni Association (ODDAA), consultation with certified property stager and Interior Designer Denise Whitley, and Mike Montpetit’s deep-seeded knowledge that comes from being a 3rd generation NC real estate agent, the team has developed a winning system for pleasing buyers and selling homes.
“I think viewers will learn things that most people aren’t aware of about getting a home ready for the market in order to command the best price,” says Montpetit. Viewers will see photos of the home before and after the professional staging process, as well as lots of video detailing the steps in-between, when the show airs next year.
Town & Country Realty’s listing is the first of 10 Buy Me shows being filmed in the Raleigh Durham area. For months, the Canadian-based HGTV crew has made Raleigh its home away from home while the shows are filmed. “It really is amazing how much work goes into creating these reality shows,” says Montpetit.
