SAN ANTONIO – Joe Begley has ways of turning one man’s trash into another man’s treasure. Among the assortments of computer desks and antique dining sets acquired from local auctions and estate sales, Joe has been harboring two perfectly functional power wheelchairs. The chairs have gone unused since their purchase, but will see new life this holiday season, thanks to Aria Medical, Batteries Plus, and Project MEND. Powered by new batteries from San Antonio’s local Batteries Plus store (6891 Bandera Rd.,78238), these two power wheelchairs have been refurbished to like-new condition and are ready to roll into the lives of two very deserving San Antonians.
“This is exactly the kind of thing San Antonio needs,” Batteries Plus franchisee Jim Rohr said, “a practical and creative way for local businesses to give back to the community. We’re more than happy to do it.”
Rohr and Begley, both entrepreneurs, brought their companies together to make this generous donation to Project MEND.
“Project MEND is a great cause, and if we can help every once in a while because of the kind of business we do, great. If it helps them do what they do better, that’s great too. That’s what’s really important,” Begley said.
Since 1992, Project MEND has loaned over 9,400 pieces of medical equipment to thousands of San Antonio and Houston residents.
