Wayne Geilman, Ph.D., Announces Seven Simple Tips for a Healthier 2007

With each new year, countless people make resolutions to improve their health but by February most have already given up. The key to sticking with resolutions is to make them realistic. Dr. Wayne Geilman, Ph.D., announces his top seven simple steps for a healthier 2007:

1. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Consume seven or more servings of highly-colored fruits and vegetables each day. It can be difficult, however, there are ways to get a little help. Exotic fruit juice supplements, like those from Pure Fruit Technologies, www.purefruittechnologies.com, are formulated with nutrient-rich fruits and offer a convenient way to supplement fruit intake.

2. Take the stairs. Each minute on the stairs burns about 8-11 calories. Integrating more stair climbing into your routine is a simple way to “sneak in” a few minutes of exercise during the day.

3. Stop and smell the roses. Studies have shown that smell can affect mood, relaxation and even heart rate. Combining aromatherapy with regular therapeutic massages is an excellent way to improve an overall sense of well-being.

4. Get at least seven hours of sleep. During sleep the body repairs itself and prepares to maximize performance when awake. The body will benefit more from an extra hour of sleep than the late night talk show that many stay awake to watch.

5. Drink more water. (Sorry, coffee and sodas don’t count!) Water regulates body temperature and distributes nutrients throughout the body, among other vital functions. To get the recommended eight glasses, try spreading water consumption out throughout the day or carrying a water bottle at all times.

6. Do your homework. If you are thinking about adding a supplement to your diet, do a little research first. Stop into your local health food store and ask questions. The Internet is also a great tool; just make sure the site you are perusing is credible. One thing to keep in mind, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

7. Eat more probiotics. Probiotics are good bacteria naturally found in your body that can help support a healthy digestive system and protect against bad bacteria. Probiotics can be found in nutritional supplements or in many popular yogurts.
