Andy Campbell, president of Applied Knowledge Group, Inc. (AKG: www.akgroup.com) addressed a core group of Microsoft employees at the 2007 Microsoft Industry Solutions University (ISU) at Gaylord Opryland in Nashville, Tennessee, October 23-25, 2006. Speaking on the subject of implementing and driving user adoption of Microsoft SharePoint and related technologies, Campbell’s presentation was centered around AKG’s efforts with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), as well as the US Marine Corps. ISU is Microsoft’s largest internal annual training event, providing deep industry training for over 2,000 Microsoft field sales team members. Each year Microsoft hand-selects less than 50 partners from among thousands to address this select group and discuss their solutions and approach to successful implementation of their products, including Microsoft SharePoint. The FAA’s SharePoint implementation, called Knowledge Services Network (KSN) has expanded from a pilot project of 30 users a few years ago, to well over 25,000 users and growing. AKG worked closely with Ronald Simmons, the founder and director of KSN, to craft a strategy that helped drive rapid adoption and use of the technology and continues to provide assistance as the network expands. KSN serves as a virtual work environment for FAA employees, contractors and other key partners, allowing them to collaborate and share knowledge from anywhere there is internet access. Simmons is now also helping to spearhead the SharePoint implementation and adoption at Marine Base Quantico.
“I am very pleased that Microsoft has recognized the efforts of AKG in helping grow the use of SharePoint as a platform for collaboration, virtual offices and knowledge management initiatives. Continued growth in the number of virtual workers, including home offices, telecommuters and the “cafe generation” has created a growing need for a cost-effective solution set to keep workers connected from anywhere. Microsoft SharePoint offers the flexibility and comprehensive capability to address these needs effectively,” said Campbell. “Its ease of use, low cost and broad functionality make it an ideal solution for all business sizes. And, the upcoming enhancements in the Office 2007 offer significant benefits to Microsoft customers,” Campbell also noted.
